Robber held up bottle shop to repay debt to Bandidos outlaw motorcycle gang - The Australian

A SERIAL fraudster who robbed a Kallangur bottle shop with a fake "9mm" gun did it to repay a debt to an outlaw motorcycle gang who'd helped him establish his tattoo business, a court has been told.

But Brisbane's District Court heard Adam Paul Davidson, 26, had trouble being taken seriously when he robbed a Kallangur BWS store by cocking his finger under his jacket at 6pm on May 24 this year.

The court heard Davidson walked into the store, asked for the price of a carton of OP rum then leaned over the counter, put a hand - and all his fingerprints - on the carton and said: "This is a hold-up. Give me your money".

The counter attendant said "are you f****** serious?" before handing over $600 worth of notes.

Barrister Jann Taylor said her client felt so bad about the robbery afterwards that he called Redcliffe Police Station and made full admissions to committing the offence.

He was arrested three days later in Toowoomba after failing to show up to an arranged meeting with police.

Ms Taylor said her client's offending was "unsophisticated" and committed out of desperation to repay money owed to the Bandidos outlaw motorcycle gang.

She said he committed the armed robbery in part because he'd "been asked to commit a more serious offence to repay the money loaned to him to set up a tattoo business".

Prosecutor Katrina Overell said Davidson had a significant criminal history in Queensland, including being convicted for disqualified driving 11 times, drink driving five times and of several fraud and dishonesty offences, in particular for failing to pay for motel rooms.

She said Davidson booked a room for two nights at the Quality Hotel Platinum International in Toowoomba on April 27, racked up a $729.60 accommodation, room service and a mini-bar bill, and left without paying.

She said the offending was curious because Davidson booked the motel rooms in his own name but left credit card details that would decline.

"He has defrauded and stolen from numerous businesses in the past and now he's threatened a bottle shop attendant," Ms Overell said.

She said Davidson was on parole at the time of the alleged offences and had since been incarcerated at the Maryborough Correctional Centre.

Ms Taylor said her client struggled with mental illness and made at least one serious attempt at taking his own life since being incarcerated.

Judge Alexander Horneman-Wren SC ordered Davidson serve three years imprisonment for armed robbery and four-months to be served concurrently for the fraud offence.

Davidson will be eligible for parole on March 31, 2014.
