Thief steals cash from charity ball - Toowoomba Chronicle

DETECTIVES are investigating the theft of a significant sum of money which was stolen from a charity event at Brigalow.

An unknown offender stole a bag containing cheques and thousands of dollars in cash which belonged to organisers at the Chinchilla Melons and Miners Charity B&S Ball and Ute Show.

Dalby Police Criminal Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Col Harvey said the cash was "semi-secured" in a wall unit.

"Attempts had been made (by organisers) to conceal it," he said.

Detective Sergeant Harvey said members of the public were not supposed to have access to the area where the money was kept.

The ball was run by a newly formed charity organisation Chinchilla Melons and Miners. The stolen cash was takings from the function.

The theft happened between 6pm and 1am on Saturday, November 10.

It had been publicised that money from the charity ute show would be donated to CareFlight.

It is unknown whether the crime prevented the promised charity donations.

Organisers declined to comment yesterday.

Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigation is urged to phone Dalby Police on 4669 9222.

Members of the public can also phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
