Acting Superintendent Col Neal has confirmed crews are also trying to contain two blazes burning in forest near Miles and Yuleba, which aren't threatening property at this stage.
There is a fire weather warning current for large parts of southern Queensland.
Col Neal says they have suspended fire permits and are asking people to not light any fires, "even small ones."
"Also to be very cautious if they are going to be using any equipment such as slashers and grinders and welders that they don't start any fires. We don't want any fires started today," Col Neal says.
Aircraft have been deployed to investigate reports that lightning overnight sparked more fires in south-west Queensland.
Hot conditions
Temperatures are expected to peak on Tuesday particularly on the Darling Downs, Lockyer Valley and the southern Burnett.
Michelle Berry, senior forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology, says a very dry air mass is pushing through in the wake of the trough. This is combining with very gusty winds to greatly increase fire dangers.
"We're looking at severe through to extreme fire dangers for those southern districts," she says.
Temperatures are expected to decrease on Thursday.
