A MAN has been charged after allegedly going overseas to train for "hostile activity" in another country, Australian Federal Police (AFP) say.
The AFP said a 45-year-old Victorian man has been charged with foreign incursion offences.
He was arrested following a joint AFP and Victoria Police investigation, with assistance provided by Queensland Police Service.
He is due to face a Brisbane court today.
The AFP said it could not say which other country was involved, when contacted by AAP.
A spokeswoman said more details would be revealed in court.
Six search warrants were executed yesterday in the Victorian suburbs of Caulfield South, Caulfield, East Bentleigh and Tynong North by the AFP and Victoria Police.
Two search warrants were also executed at Toowoomba, west of Brisbane, a joint statement from the three police forces said.
"It will be alleged in court that the man travelled overseas to participate in training to assist in the participation of hostile activity offshore," it said.
The man has been charged with making preparations for incursions into foreign states for the purpose of engaging in hostile activities, contrary to Section 7 of the Crimes (Foreign Incursions and Recruitment) Act 1978.
The maximum penalty for this offence is 10 years imprisonment.
Investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
"Members of the public are encouraged to call the National Security Hotline on 1800 123 400 if they have information they believe may be linked to this investigation," the statement said.
