Michelle Berry, senior forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology, says above average temperatures will continue this week.
Temperatures are expected to peak on Tuesday, "particularly on the Downs and Lockyer Valley and the southern Burnett."
"That will combine with a very dry air mass pushing through in the wake of this trough. Very gusty westerly winds to greatly enhance fire dangers."
"We're looking at severe through to extreme fire dangers for those southern districts."
Michelle Berry says there is potential to break temperature records, particularly through the Lockyer Valley on Tuesday.
Temperatures are expected to decrease on Thursday.
Col Neal, acting superintendent Qld Fire and Rescue Service southwest region, says conditions are similar, "if not worse," than when bushfires hit the Toowoomba, Tara and Stanthorpe districts in 2002.
"Our fire activity analysts have been studying this. Fires will be very difficult to contain under these conditions. We will be concentrating on property and people protection."
"We have set up the regional co-ordination centre in Toowoomba and we're setting up incident control centres in Roma, Dalby and Warwick. We are moving resources around to try and cover all areas," Col Neal says.
