IPSWICH may be taking on Wynnum-Manly as Queensland Cup action returns to Toowoomba but there will be plenty of Garden City connections in play at Clive Berghofer Stadium on Sunday.
Former Toowoomba talents Ben and Shane Walker will coach the Jets in Sunday's crucial Intrust Super Cup game against Wynnum-Manly.
The Walker brothers are two of the city's top rugby league exports and are looking forward to coaching back at the ground where they used to watch the Clydesdales run around during their younger days.
They were scheduled to coach the Jets in Toowoomba last year in a pre-season trial match against the Clydesdales TRL representative team only for a severe storm causing the game to be called off.
Shane is looking forward to Sunday and hopes Toowoomba spectators are as against Wynnum-Manly as they were when he watched the Seagulls play at Athletic Oval when he was a kid when Wally Lewis ran out for them.
"It's great to get back to Toowoomba because that's where Ben and I played our junior footy," he said.
The Jets will have other representatives with Toowoomba connections on Sunday.
Ipswich captain Keiron Lander is a former Downlands College student and Valleys junior, while prop Rowan Winterfield played for Valleys in the under 16 TJRL grand final against now Broncos hooker Andrew McCullough and his Dalby team.
Interchange player Liam Capewell was also part of the TRL A grade premiership-winning Valleys team in 2006, with his younger brothers Sam and Jake still playing with the Roosters.
There is also a Garden City connection in the Seagulls team, with fullback Jeriah Goodrich a former Toowoomba Grammar School student.
