Magpies fly into Premier grade football grand finals - Toowoomba Chronicle

WILLOWBURN has won through to both the Premier Men's and Premier Women's grand finals after the first weekend of Football Toowoomba finals.

The Willowburn men overcame a 1-0 deficit after a 21st minute goal from USQ's Muhammed Isbil to beat the Students 2-1 in the major semi-final at Newtown.

Trent Donovan equalised for Willowburn in the 34th minute before Brodie Welch slotted what proved to be the winner just after the break.

USQ will now take on West Wanderers in the preliminary final after Wanderers downed South Toowoomba Hawks 3-1 in extra-time in the minor semi-final.

Wanderers took a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute before Hawks managed a late equaliser through Callum Clanchy sent the game into extra-time as both teams fought to stay alive.

Wanderers had the running and slotted two extra-time goals to make it through.

Meanwhile, the Premier Women's major semi-final went even longer as Willowburn progressed to the grand final with a penalty shootout victory over Rockville.

Scores were locked at 1-1 after 90 and 120 minutes before Willowburn shone in the shootout winning it 3-0.

Rockville will have to bounce back quickly as it will take on Gatton this weekend in the preliminary final after the Redbacks beat Highfields 3-0 in the minor semi-final.
