HERMAN Ene-Purcell's first win in a boxing bout was a personal one for the Toowoomba heavyweight.

In his second professional fight, Ene-Purcell pummelled his opponent Matt Steele to record a first round TKO victory after Steele's corner threw in the towel after just one minute 19 seconds at Smithy's Gym.

Ene-Purcell was on top early and had Steele ducking for cover.

The 18-year-old revealed in the ring after the fight it had been a tough preparation personally.

"A couple of weeks ago I lost my grandfather. He was close to me so it was hard," he said.

Trainer Brendon Smith was pleased with Ene-Purcell's performance after an ill-disciplined debut last month when he lost on points to Olaf Olsen.

"He learnt so much from the first fight and his preparation leading up to this was second to none. He went really well," Smith said.

"He showed his composure and that was what we were after."

Smith has high hopes for Ene-Purcell's future in the sport but has not thought about his next move.

"We haven't discussed it. We really needed to get the runs on the board today," Smith said.

Fellow Toowoomba fighter Graham Blay also got his professional career off the mark as he outpointed Olsen in an exciting bout.

Blay won his second bout by unanimous decision after getting on top in the second round.

A host of amateur fights were also held on the card.
