SAM Briggs is the fittest woman in the world.

The 31-year-old fire-fighter from Manchester, England was crowned 2013 CrossFit Games female champion earlier this year.

And for four hours this week Briggs was the focal point of Toowoomba's growing CrossFit community.

With Briggs and fellow elite crossfitters Nicola Simpson, Talayna Fortunato and Emily Friedman in action as part of an international team at the recent Immortals Team Challenge at the Gold Coast, Fighting Fit Toowoomba owner Glenn Azar saw the perfect opportunity to train with and learn from the best.

Azar approached Briggs and the rest is history.

"You never know what can happen if you don't ask," Azar said.

"It was an exciting day for Fighting Fit, CrossFit Great Divide and everyone that attended."

Having already spent three hours training Tuesday morning, Briggs and her team mates then spent four hours talking with Toowoomba crossfitters before competing alongside in a team based workout designed by the champion herself.

Some people would be hard pressed to see what benefit the world champion receives from attending local boxes (gyms) but reality may be surprising.

"It's always good to give something back, these are people who buy our t-shirts which then sponsors us and allows us to train full-time to be able to be the athletes we are," Briggs said.

"The way we are received in boxes like this it's just fantastic. It makes it even more important for you to try harder to win the competitions and just try to produce a performance for the people watching."

Briggs also believes attending other boxes is an opportunity for her to take another step forward in her personal development.

"It's always nice to go and train at other boxes, you get to meet other coaches and see how different boxes are run."

Her comments were echoed by CrossFit Great Divide head coach Jason Erbacher.

"We (Fighting Fit and CrossFit Great Divide) can't thank Sam and the girls enough for being here today," Erbacher said.
