WRANGLING hundreds of pickers and car enthusiasts into plots sprawled right across the Toowoomba Showgrounds isn't a task for the weak at heart.

Luckily the Darling Downs Veteran and Vintage Motor Club had president Trevor Hoffmann on board to take some of the brunt.

Mr Hoffman said he had been up since before 5am yesterday finalising preparations for the annual Toowoomba Swap, which draws thousands of pickers and motoring enthusiasts keen to snap up rare items and great bargains.

"From what I can gather, every site on the ground is booked and we've probably knocked 300 back," he said.

"In the main arena we'll have 200 display cars."

He said one big highlight this year would be a team planning on securing all the parts to build a "rat rod" on site.

Due to regulations, their plans to construct the car on site had to be shelved, but Mr Hoffmann said it would still be a feat to get all the parts together.

The Toowoomba Swap runs from 6am to 6pm today and from 6am until about lunchtime tomorrow.
