Toowoomba hopes to claim bushdance record - ABC Local

This Easter Sunday morning boot and sneaker wearers alike are being encouraged to join a world record attempt at Toowoomba's Easterfest.

The idea came from Ben King, the frontman of Smashing Bumpkins, a bushdance band that has played numerous times in the Garden City.

"We thought a record might be a possibility after playing a gig here where we think there was about 2000 people dancing."

"I looked up the records...the Madison seemed simple enough...and setting a record is something I think everyone has thought about being part of in their life.

"There's an innocent charm about bushdancing," King says. "Everyone can bushdance. It's some of the best fun you can ever have."

According to organisers, the current record stands at 1010.

"We think it's pretty achievable. Hopefully Toowoomba can become the new holder."

King says festival goers should be in a celebratory mood on Easter Sunday.

"There's no better time, it'll be a really good way to celebrate."
