Engines rev for Toowoomba's new legal skid bowl - Toowoomba Chronicle

TYRE-TEARING Toowoomba drivers will have a legal outlet for their skidding cravings when the Toowoomba Speedbowl opens its new burn-out pad.

The Toowoomba Skid Bowl will officially open to the public on Saturday, June 14 when up to 60 muscle cars take to the cement.

Renowned skid artist Warren Gersekowski, whose Holden Ute "1TUFHG" is a regular in car magazines, won the honour of performing the first skid.

Mr Gersekowski's bid of $1050 in a charity auction for RACQ CareFlight secured him the privilege.

Speedway promoter Allan Woods said the 30m-by-17m burn-out pad was the product of months of behind-the-scenes work.

"We've had a lot of good feedback.

"People have been looking for somewhere like this for a long time," he said.

"We're dealing with police and council to try and get some of the hoons off the streets and into a safe environment.

"It's surrounded by concrete barriers so it actually teaches the drivers some skills and keeps it contained."

The pad is located at the centre of the main racetrack.

Burn-out competitions are expected to be held every month.

The first Toowoomba Skid Bowl will be held at the Toowoomba Speedbowl from 10am on Saturday, June 14. For more details visit http://ift.tt/OGpgcS.
