BEN Currie may have improved his chances of claiming the Toowoomba trainers' premiership with two wins at Clifford Park on Saturday night but it was also a tough night for his stable.
Currie's Nature Bites ($7) edged out Raging to Win by a half-neck in the race three TTC Racing Awards 13/9 Class 2 Handicap (1200m).
That win was immediately followed up by more success as Gully Command ($5) recorded a four-length victory over Etrangere ($5) in the race four XXXX Gold Class 4 Handicap (1200m).
The two wins could be important for Currie as he battles Tony Sears for the Clifford Park trainers' premiership.
But earlier in the night there was sadness for the Currie stable and the connections of Seen and Couldn't See It.
Both horses were unplaced in the race two Neil Mansell Group Benchmark 80 Handicap over 1625 metres, which was won by Hillary's Clang ($8) who beat home $3.20 favourite Extreme Mover by 1 ¾ lengths.
A post-race veterinary inspection of Couldn't See It revealed an injury to the off fore tendon and the Currie stable advised stewards the four-year-old gelding would now be retired.
A post-race veterinary check also found Seen had bled from both nostrils during the race and as that was the second time the runner had bled, the four-year-old gelding would now incur a lifetime ban from racing.
