Main Roads seeks 'super site' in Toowoomba - Toowoomba Chronicle

THE Queensland Government is hunting for a city-centre office twice the area of an Olympic swimming pool to merge all Department of Transport and Main Roads operations under one roof.

A 2500sq m office space needs to be found quickly with the contract for the Toowoomba bypass due to be awarded next month.

Member for Toowoomba North Trevor Watts said the "super complex" was chiefly for operational staff and customer service centres were unlikely to be incorporated.

"We have a lot of staff in planning and other departments, and with the range crossing coming up we need them to have the best facilities possible," he said.

"We have people employed monitoring cameras on the range, people designing roads and others organising work teams.

"This is about getting all those people into a modern space so they can work effectively."

Expressions of interest have been called from owners of properties of "good quality, air-conditioned, carpeted" office space with 80 car parks within 1.5km of the CBD.

The Department of Housing and Public Works has stated design-and-construct proposals would also be considered, along with premises which "may be suitably refurbished".

The expression of interest stage closes on Wednesday, August 27.
