GATTON'S Andrew Dodt has broken a four-year drought with a barnstorming two-shot win in the $110,000 Queensland Open at Brookwater, Brisbane.

The 28-year-old birdied his final two holes to beat overnight leader Tom Bond and Matthew Griffin, who struck late bogey trouble.

Dodt (pictured) surged into the lead with his fifth birdie of the final round on the 17th hole, before draining a five-metre birdie on the 18th hole to claim victory.

"It's one of the proudest days of my career," said an emotional Dodt who was inspired after reading the names of previous winners on the Open trophy earlier in the week.

"To win your state open is pretty cool. I saw all the famous names on the trophy and thought how great it would be to have mine on it alongside them."

Teenager Kade McBride fired a closing round 69 to claim leading amateur honours, after posting 66-72-79 on the opening three days.
