Teen's crash recovery centre stage at awards - Toowoomba Chronicle

TEENAGER Sophie Delezio's recovery after being critically injured when an out-of-control car sped through the front of her day care centre was the subject of her father Ron Delezio's talk at the recent Toowoomba Business Disability Awards.

Sophie, now 13, suffered burns to 85% of her body, lost both feet, some fingers and her right ear.

In 2006, she made national headlines after a second horrendous accident. She was hit by another car as she was pushed across a pedestrian crossing in a wheelchair.

Mr Delezio and his wife started the Day of Difference Foundation to help parents with critically injured children across Australia.

The Toowoomba Disability Awards is an initiative of the Toowoomba West Special School Parents' and Families' Association and is now in its third year.

The awards recognise local businesses which employ people with a disability and showcase the commercial benefit of making this decision.
