RUGBY LEAGUE: Paul Dean has been returned as TRL chairman at yesterday's annual general meeting and said a salary cap of sorts had been adopted by the league's clubs.

The TRL board from this year was maintained at yesterday's AGM at Gold Park, with Dean returned along with secretary Vicki Ryan, finance director Tony Coonan and five other directors.

A general meeting was held following the AGM and TRL clubs voted in favour of capping player payments.

Dean revealed player payments will now have a ceiling of $250 per player per game in a bid to help clubs remain financially viable.

The chairman said clubs could still cover the costs of travel or other justified expenses outside of the capped player match payment but that there was now a limit what money TRL star players could receive per game.

"There was only one club that spoke out about it but it was voted for unanimously to help ensure the viability of the TRL," Dean said.

The TRL had received Goondiwindi's application for affiliation but was still waiting to receive the submission from Stanthorpe posted during the week according to Gremlins president Norm Crisp.

This season, 10 clubs played in the TRL, including Southern Downs clubs Warwick and Wattles.

Dean said Border League president Casey O'Connor attended the TRL AGM as both competitions worked together as the make-up of both organisations in terms of club numbers remained in the air.

The affiliation applications of Goondiwindi and Stanthorpe, along with the existing TRL clubs, would be assessed over the coming weeks.
