WHEN the Toowoomba and District MS Support Group put out the call for help with its annual fundraising swimathon, volunteers from everywhere dived in.

Some 12 teams comprising 150 swimmers made a big splash at the Milne Bay Aquatic Centre cruising up and down the pool from 6am to 6pm.

Organisers set a target of $35,000 and by the half-way mark at noon on Saturday, that target had been smashed.

For some swimmers like Tahlia Crismale the event is personal, while others simply dived in to help out a worthy cause.

"My mum (Nicole) has MS so I really wanted to take part in this," she said.

"Mum is the president of the local MS support group and I like to help her with anything she does with the group."

With ages ranging from seven to 70, teams were made up from local businesses, swimming squads, schools and people with MS and their families and friends.
