Main Roads' officials say repairing the Warrego Highway and the Toowoomba range crossing were among the toughest tasks of its flood reconstruction program.

A billion-dollar program to repair more than 730 kilometres of roads damaged since the floods of 2010 is expected to be officially completed this weekend.

The work began in December 2010 and included realigning the Toowoomba range crossing and improvements to the Warrego Highway between Minden and Dalby.

Main Roads' Phil Twedell said realigning the range was a remarkable challenge.

"On the down lanes where there was a section of embankment which was wanting to slide down the road and was fixed with soil nails and drains and a whole heap of work, very difficult work, and then there was the difficult stuff which we did which was about fixing up damaged slopes above the road mostly," he said.

"It's basically repairing damage reconstruction work but along the way some of the work we've done is better than what it was before, the State Government also put in what they call complementary funding which involved building some extra resilience."
