Toowoomba juniors in Emerging Maroons squad - Toowoomba Chronicle

FORMER Toowoomba talents Ashley Taylor and Jordan Drew have the chance to push their claims for future State of Origin selection in Brisbane next month.

The Broncos under 20s stars have been included in a 26-man Emerging Maroons squad that includes some of the best young talent from across the state.

The squad will train at the Queensland Academy of Sport from January 15-18 in a bid to expose some future Origin players to other young guns they may don the maroon with in the future.

Taylor is a promising half and was part of the Broncos NRL squad last season but played in the under 20s. Drew, a strong outside back, made his NRL debut in 2013 and played out 2014 in the under 20s alongside Taylor as they made the grand final.

Young guns from a host of NRL clubs are included in the squad, with some players like Corey Oates and Kyle Feldt already boasting plenty of NRL experience.

Queensland Rugby League has also named an 18-man State of Origin Emerging Squad which was made up of more established NRL stars pushing for spots in the Maroons squad for next year.

That squad will train at QAS from January 9-11 and features the likes of Broncos halves Ben Hunt and Anthony Milford.

Dalby's Andrew McCullough was not named in that squad, with Roosters hooker Jake Friend and Panthers rake James Segeyaro included.
