Unlicensed mum-of-two banned from driving for 30 months - Toowoomba Chronicle

A TOOWOOMBA magistrate has again warned motorists of the perils of driving after having their licence disqualified by a court.

Magistrates in Toowoomba have made it clear time and again that disqualified driving is considered a very serious offence and a showing of contempt for court orders.

Regularly offenders convicted of driving while under court ordered disqualification received sentences of imprisonment.

"Driving while disqualified is thumbing your nose at the authority of the court," Magistrate Damian Carroll told a mother of two who appeared before him on her third disqualified driving offence in less than three years.

She was sentenced to four months jail but the term was suspended immediately for two years and she was disqualified from driving for 30 months.

Mr Carroll warned the woman she would most likely go to jail should she be caught driving again in that time unless her driving was deemed an emergency such as a serious medical situation.

Even then, the situation would only be an emergency after all other options such as ambulance or taxi had been exhausted and there was no-one else available to drive in the circumstances.
