Why Toowoomba?

Inara Strungs has set her new novel, Sunstone, in Toowoomba. When asked why, she replied, ‘because it hasn’t been done much in the past, if at all.’ She said she’s read poems and stories set in the Darling Downs but not novels.

She went on to say that the city is a good backdrop for her story of a young pregnant painter who is diagnosed with terminal melanoma and sues her doctor for misdiagnosing the case. Everything, however, changes at the end after the baby is born.

‘I’ve incorporated the physical environment and history of Toowoomba into the story,’ Inara said. ‘I lived there in the 1990’s and worked as a doctor in the hospital and have good memories of the town.’ She adds that the plot is pure fiction and not based on any real events.

Sunstone has been reviewed as ‘a good read’ and is available as a paperback and e-book from online retailers such as Amazon and Palmer Higgs.
