The Grantham Butter Factory: Restoring an Icon
14 January 2013 , 12:59 PM by David Iliffe
It was two years on Friday since floodwaters devastated Grantham and a string of other Lockyer Valley towns.
Since that day, there has been a lot of help offered and given to the town and its residents in a lot of different forms - and from a myriad different sources.
But for the past two years, one of the biggest projects has been humming along quietly in the background.
The old butter factory - one of the focal points for residents who had lost their homes in the flood in the months afterwards - is just months away from a full restoration.
The amazing transformation project has been driven by members of the Toowoomba South Rotary Club, helped by a band of extremely generous and selfless sponsors. I took a drive down there on Friday to have a look at where the project is up to at the moment and I recorded a terrific chat with Toowoomba South Rotary president Bill Mason.
Listen to Grantham local Ron Court Sen. reminisce about his days helping his father deliver cream to the butrter factory in a horse and cart.
