SKYTRANS has announced the "temporary suspension" of flights between Roma and Toowoomba from May 5.
Managing director Simon Wild said it was time for the airline to do some more preparation. He hoped to bring the route back into operation by the end of the year.
"Demand just wasn't there. We have a bit more homework to do," he said.
Mr Wild said the airline had gone into the operation "full hog", without adequate corporate support.
"The flights have been temporarily suspended whilst we begin working with business," he said.
"It is not a case of build it and they will come."
Residents who have booked flights after May 5 can contact the airline for a full refund.
Mr Wild said a small number of flights had been operating each week between Roma and Toowoomba, but they had not been well supported.
