Telling Their Story

Nino and Gloria As a society, we hear a lot of people complaining that the younger generation have no respect for their elders.

We read stories about the yawning generation gap, these days being spread even wider by Generation Y's slavish devotion to technology versus the older generation's devotion to simpler times.

So it was fantastic to be able to find out about the Telling Their Story project between a group of senior students from Toowoomba's St Mary's College and residents of the Lourdes Home.

I had the most amazing chat with St Mary's College students Ben Choice, Jacob Lunney and Jarrod Swinter who spoke really frankly about the profound impact Lourdes resident and stroke victim Nino Marchetti's life story had on them.

But after meeting some of the residents of Lourdes, I discovered they had taken just as much away from the experience as the students.

It's a terrific story.

Listen to Lourdes Home Diversional Therapist Maryann Cullen talking about the origins of "Telling Their Story" and what being involved has meant for the residents.

St Mary's College teacher Samantha Parle explains how the school came to be involved.
