Impressive local Aboriginal Art could break the unemployment cycle

Last week .. on Friday night I went to an art exhibition.. this is an art exhibition that has the ability to change lives.. even the future of families.
It was a auction at the Harlaxton Neighbourhood Centre in Toowoomba.
Local Aboriginal artists were asked to paint pictures that were inspired by the floods of 2011.. it was called big water. 3-000 dollars worth of work was sold that night... a huge boost for a group who are largely dependant on welfare.
That's the idea... the Harlaxton and Wilsonton Heights Neighbourhood Centres are setting up projects that will give the disadvanged more employment opportunities - to support themselves and their families.
I was really amazed by the talent in that room.. some of the airtwork is simply outstanding.
I spoke to a few of the artists there ... with varying experience. Arron Marsh learns art technique at the Wilsonton Heights Community Centre.
I also met Megan Bartman... who has obviously had big challenges in her life... she paints for herself and her family.. and the passion has been passed on.
Then there was Edward Colliss. A man who runs art classes for kids who would otherwise be wandering the streets... at the Wilsonton Heights Neighbourhood Centre.
