WALLABIES skipper James Horwill's eight-month stint in "Team Rehab" will end on Friday night when he makes his comeback from injury in a Super Rugby trial on the Sunshine Coast.

Horwill has not played since tearing his hamstring against the Brumbies last year, but he will lead a strong Reds outfit on Friday night against the Chiefs.

"I'm a terrible spectator at the best of times, so it's a huge relief to be out of Team Rehab and in a position to play once again," Horwill said.

Wallaby Radike Samo is then only unexpected omission from the squad.

Samo was found to have a problem with his knee following the Reds trial win over the Blues last Saturday night.

He will have scans today and is set to miss the first round of Super Rugby.

With Quade Cooper scratching his boxing itch, Jono Lance has been handed an opportunity to impress at flyhalf.

Lance was also sidelined with injury for much of last year, and he will be determined to make an impact in his preferred position.

He will guide a backline that includes new-look centre pairing Mike Harris and Ben Tapuai, with former Wallaby Rod Davies starting on the wing.

In the pack, the young back-row combination of Eddie Quirk, Liam Gill and Jake Schatz will be a handful for the Chiefs.
