Andrew Tschudin will defend the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship this week in front of a home crowd at the City Golf Club Toowoomba when play gets underway tomorrow.

A Toowoomba resident Tschudin won the tournament last year after rain delays reduced the tournament to three rounds and is hoping to retain the title in 2013.

“I am feeling pretty good, the form has been alright so it’s just a matter of making a few putts and see what happens - I think every week if you can putt well, then you are going to have a good week,” said Tschudin.

“My ball striking was really good last year and I think with this course being fairly tight if I can keep it in play, keep it on the fairway then that will help too.”

“It would be great to get four nice days this year and get a good tournament in.”

While he may have a home course advantage, Tschudin believes this may be mitigated given this is the third year the PGA Tour of Australasia has visited City Golf Club.

“I get to play here a little bit through the year where the other guys don’t get that opportunity and I have played this set up with the temporary holes, so I understand a little bit more about it than perhaps some of the others.”

“But everyone has a yardage book and has been coming here long enough to know how the course plays, so I don’t think I will have too much of an advantage.”

A quality field has assembled to contest the Championship providing Tschudin a healthy challenge in his title defence.

“I think whoever wins this week is going to have to be playing well with the quality of the field here so hopefully I am playing well enough to give them a shake on Sunday.”

Also teeing it up are Australian PGA Champion Daniel Popovic, Queenslander Brad Kennedy, Kiwi Michael Hendry and Victorian Paul Sheehan.

“It’s great to see all those guys playing, they have all won big tournaments so it’s great that they come up and support the Tour and these regional events.
