Podium finish proves elusive for Toowoomba driver Will Power - The Sunshine Coast Daily

TOOWOOMBA driver Will Power missed the podium at the Grand Prix of Alabama.

Power started from the front row of the grid but could manage only fifth at Barber Motorsports Park, with reigning drivers' champion and pole sitter Ryan Hunter-Reay picking up his first win of the year.

Power led for nine laps of the race but couldn't hold down the spot at the head of the field.

It is the second-straight race Power has missed out on a place on the podium, with both races being held on street circuits which are the 32-year-old Toowoomba driver's strength.

The result has Power eighth in the drivers' championship, 32 points behind leader and Team Penske team mate Helio Castroneves, who finished third behind Hunter-Reay at Alabama.

Power will now be out to push for a podium place at the Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 21.
