Toowoomba's firefighting union president has rated the timeliness of his crews' response to a fire at the Blue Care Aged Care Facility as a worse than third world standard.


His criticism is not aimed the firefighters themselves, but the resourcing arrangements with which they have to work.


United Firefighters Union Toowoomba branch president Tony Guse said calls to two fires within minutes of each other in the early hours of Sunday morning highlighted the need for a third station in Toowoomba.


He said crews from the Kitchener St and Anzac Ave stations were busy fighting a blaze at a Herries St solicitors' office when the call to the aged care facility came in.


"Once we had the first call that had maxed out our resources," Mr Guse said.
