Police say drivers ignoring mobile phone warnings - ABC Local

Fifty-eight drivers have been charged with a range of offences during a traffic blitz in Toowoomba, including running red lights and using a mobile phone while driving.

Operation Lima Yukon has been targeting the top five crash zones in Toowoomba and yesterday focused on James and Kitchener streets.

Sergeant Ian Reimers says it is particularly disappointing that nine drivers were given tickets for talking on a mobile phone.

"They're not getting the hint that it is a serious offence, that it is a life endangering offence and it is a large cause of the traffic crashes that are occurring," he said.

"It's amazing to see that the message isn't out there yet because mobile phones are a large contributor to traffic crashes and we are still detecting a large number of people on mobile phones."
