City's new Cancer Council community hub supports patients - Toowoomba Chronicle

CANCER Council Queensland has opened a Community Hub in Toowoomba, to benefit locals impacted by cancer.

The new hub provides a one-stop-shop for local residents touched by cancer and is a focal point for CCQ's work in cancer control.

The Community Hub, located at High Street Plaza, features a SunSmart Shop, community meeting room and an office area for CCQ's Toowoomba-based fundraising team.

The addition of the new location for fundraising and retail has freed up space at Olive McMahon Lodge for CCQ to run all cancer support services under one roof.

Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift said the new location provided the community with even greater access to CCQ staff and support.

"The addition of the new facility will allow us to run all cancer support services at Olive McMahon Lodge, with the fundraising and retail Hub providing one destination for all South West Queenslanders touched by cancer," Ms Clift said.

"Prevention is critical and through the Community Hub, CCQ will make SunSmart products including hats, sunscreen and clothing readily available to the local community, to give them best protection against skin cancer.

"As part of this important development, we've also extended our Lodge services to include free allied health and complementary therapies such as physiotherapy and massage that can be used in partnership with cancer care treatment.

"These services will promote the physical and emotional wellbeing of cancer patients both staying at the lodge and those in the local community."

The Lodge has 20 self-contained rooms and can accommodate as many as 50 people at any one time, providing a total of 7300 bed nights each year.

The Toowoomba Community Hub is located in High Street Plaza.

Olive McMahon Lodge is located at 2 Scott St, East Toowoomba.
