AFTER months of hard work, the Toowoomba BMX Club is almost ready to unveil its international standard starting gate.
The club received more than $80,000 in funding as part of the State Government's Get in the Game initiative to construct the five-metre starting hill.
It has installed a Pro Gate system, the same one used at the 2012 London Olympics, which will help to lift the standard of BMX racing in Toowoomba.
The new gate will likely be up and running by the end of September and club president David Budden said it was fantastic to see everything coming together.
"It's been a hard slog. I don't think we've had a weekend at home since about March," he said.
"We've been here every weekend and I think we'll be here every weekend until about Christmas time but it'll be worth it once it's all set up.
"The gate is world standard. It just means you don't have to drive 2½ hours to practice and it should attract big events to Toowoomba."
