LETTER OF THE DAY: Thanks for the kindness - Toowoomba Chronicle

LETTER: LAST weekend our 14-year-old son, Christian, was in Toowoomba playing in the Queensland Senior School's Cup Volleyball.

For the last 13 years, our children have enjoyed their three days (always at this time of the year) in your friendly, picturesque city.

As parents we often accompany the team and always have a lovely time.

This year was no exception, but a particular event made it even more memorable.

On Saturday, August 9, about 7pm, our son attempted to purchase some items from the Shell Service Station on Ruthven St, South Toowoomba.

Unfortunately when he went to pay with his card he used the incorrect pin and further attempts proved futile. He felt quite embarrassed and told the attendant he would not be able to buy the goods and would have to ring his mother to get the correct pin code.

Upon hearing this, the very kindly gentleman behind him insisted on paying for Christian's goods. Our son was very grateful but firmly tried to say that it was not necessary.

The man would not hear of it and paid anyway.

We do not know this generous man's name but in the hope that he may read your paper, Christian would further like to thank this gentleman for his random act of kindness.

We were very touched by this gesture towards our son and would also like to extend our appreciation.

It is a wonderful life lesson for children to witness and an act which also encourages thoughtfulness towards our fellow human beings.

Thank you Toowoomba and your compassionate citizen or visitor.

VICKI MONAGHAN, Holland Park, Brisbane
