HOCKEYROO Bec Dwyer is behind the push for Toowoomba to host next year's Oceania Championships.
Dwyer will this week head over the Tasman with the Hockeyroos for a Test series against New Zealand before contesting the Champions Trophy in Argentina this month.
The Garden City talent was aware the Toowoomba Hockey Association had submitted an expression of interest in hosting the 2015 Oceania Championships and was right behind the effort.
Dwyer would love to cement her place in the Hockeyroos squad against New Zealand and at the Champions Trophy as she would be thrilled to be part of the national squad for the Oceania Championships, especially if it was in Toowoomba.
She threw her support behind the city as a potential host and also talked up Clyde Park as a venue worthy of hosting international hockey.
"That would be awesome to have the opportunity to play in Toowoomba," she said.
"My family is there and it would be great to play at that level there.
"I think there should be more international matches played there."
The Oceania Championships are a qualifying event for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro so the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras would field strong squads for the Oceania tournament, regardless of where it was played.
Kookaburra and fellow Garden City talent Kiel Brown has also supported the Toowoomba push for the Oceania Championships.
Hockey Australia has indicated a desire to see the Oceania tournament played outside of a metropolitan area so provincial centres like Toowoomba from across Australia are also bound to put their hand up to host the event.
