FORECASTERS are predicting the mercury to rise this week as cool south-easterly winds swing around to hot northerlies.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Chris Joseph said south-easterly winds had come through after the storms and kept temperatures low in the region.
"The region was slightly below average for this time of year," he said.
Mr Joseph said there was a chance of a storm developing in the Granite Belt district today
"It will get hot across large parts of the Darling Downs by tomorrow and Wednesday, and the weather will become unstable.
He said there was a good chance of storms on Wednesday and especially Thursday.
"By mid-week we're looking at showers and storms and there could be decent rainfall depending on where the storms are positioned," Mr Joseph said.
He said the maximum temperature for today was predicted to hit 28 degrees, with tomorrow reaching 31 degrees and Wednesday a warm 34 degrees.
Mr Joseph said weather in the region was being driven by a weak ridge up the coast.
"That's what's directing the south-easterly winds and the unstable conditions will come from a surface trough that will start pushing through tomorrow.
"That will move through the east and come through mid-week."
