GOLD medals wins to Conor McLoughlin and Nicole Maynard and a record javelin throw from Ellie Bowyer highlighted a strong performance from Toowoomba athletes at this year's Australian All Schools Championships.

The championships were held in Adelaide last weekend.

McLoughlin - a Fairholme Athletics Club member - won gold in the under 16 hammer and discus.

His discus throw of 65.24 metres put him almost 5m clear of the second placegetter. McLoughlin won hammer with a 61.60m throw.

Fourteen-year-old Bowyer upstaged her under-16 age group rivals with an All Schools record throw to claim gold.

Her heave of 47.08m put her almost 7m clear of the field and fell only 3cm short of the Australian record.

"It's a great achievement for Emily to give away age and win gold with a record. I'm sure she'll break the Australian mark next year," Fairholme club coach Grahame Pitt said.

Fairholme's Samantha Lenton also returned home with multiple medals after finishing third in both the under 16 shot put and discus.

Maynard flew the Toowoomba flag successfully on the track where she won the under 18 400m hurdles.

The Glennie Athletic Club member's winning time of 62.26secs was more than a second faster than her nearest rival.

Maynard's victory sealed her 14th gold medal win for 2014.

The current Australian under 18 open champion has won four at national and 10 at state level.

Maynard also took silver in the under 18 long jump and bronze in triple jump.

Her performance added to the success of club mate Lily Burns who won gold medals in the 4x100 and 4x200m relays at the Australian School Sport Track and Field Championships in Tasmania.

"Unfortunately Emily Bass had to miss Adelaide because of an ear infection, but Nicole continued her terrific year," Glennie club coach Neil McCoy said.

"To finish 2014 with four gold, two silver and a bronze medal at national level is a great reward."
