Writing about Toowoomba's local heroes in June made Naomi J. Matthews realise how many women in her life inspire her. Agency
WHEN I sat down to start writing my first column for Style Magazine, I thought a lot about what inspires me and who I consider my heroes.
I have always strived to be a positive and good person, and thankful I have a group of amazing women around me who support and inspire me in this goal.
My mother is the most self-less person I know, and I hope that one day when I have children, I will be even half as amazing a mother as she is.
Nothing is too much trouble for her and she is always putting the needs of others before herself.
She is one of my best friends and I cherish every moment I share with her.
My little sister, Laura, reminds of the importance of being proud of whom you are and marching to your own beat.
She is stubborn but unbelievably strong in mind and soul and even though I don't agree with everything she does, she challenges me to learn to accept the beauty in our differences.
My friends are the most unique, quirky, flamboyant, sarcastic and loyal group of women, and I love them all for it.
I'm never short for a shoulder to cry on when I'm sad, an ear to listen to me when I'm brainstorming, a rational point of view when I'm frustrated or a high five to help me celebrate.
They are nurses, carers, designers, artists, corporate women, wives and mothers, and I am honoured to know them.
Finally, the women I work with are a source of boundless knowledge, humour and wisdom.
Their incredible work ethic, determination and ability to get any task, even the most insurmountable ones done, constantly amazes me and I am always learning from them.
They are resilient, beautiful, accomplished and talented women and they make coming to work each day a blessing.
The combined presence of these ladies in my life is a constant source of pride and happiness to me.
Their presence also makes me want to be a better person, worthy of being in their lives.
So this is my vow - I am going to continue to be there for them, I am going to continue to support them in all they do, and I am going to try my hardest to make them proud to know me.
I am also going to be a woman my beautiful god-daughter Ella can look up to, because she deserves nothing less.
As I was writing about Toowoomba's local heroes, it made me realise how many women I have in my own life that are my heroes and that is something I intend to appreciate and cherish my whole life.
