Queensland eateries dominate at 2012 Savour Australia Restaurant and ... - The Australian

QUEENSLAND has cleaned up at the 2012 Savour Australia Restaurant and Catering national finals tonight, taking out top honours in a staggering 12 categories.



Krish Indian Cuisine at Worongary, on the Gold Coast, was awarded the Family Restaurant award, beating Merimbula Aquarium and Wharf Restaurant and Hog's Breath Cafaaceacute; at Kelmscott.


The gong for Asian Restaurant went to Sake Restaurant & Bar at Eagle Street Pier, while the Chinese Restaurant award was scooped by Qi'Lin at Toowoomba.


Continuing the streak was Spice N Flavor at Mackay, which won the Indian/Sub-Continent Restaurant award.


Fortitude Valley's Belle Epoque Patisserie also snatched the Bakery/Patisserie category from South Australia's Muratti Cakes & Gateaux.


In a fitting twist, the venue in which the national awards were being held, the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre at South Bank, took out the Green Table Award for Excellence in Environmental Sustainability.

Other recipients were 1two3 Mediterranean Dining & Lounge Bar at Broadbeach (Small bar), Mariosarti at Bardon (Restaurant Caterer), Jupiters Townsville (Wedding Caterer), Bistro at Cowboys Leagues Club at Townsville


(Restaurant in a pub/club/tavern), Essence at Jupiters Townsville (Restaurant in a hotel/motel/resort), and Thai Royal Restaurant at Centenary Heights (Thai Restaurant).


However, Queensland was pipped in the major awards, with Restaurant of the Year going to Eleonore's Restaurant. Eurest was also awarded Caterer of the Year.


The Awards for Excellence, in their 15th year, comprised of 36 categories, with more than 1400 businesses participating in this year's program.


Venues were assessed by trained judges who dine anonymously and review the food against a standardised set of criteria.
