Last Post, February 12 - The Australian (blog)

YOU'RE right, Jason Clare. We don't like sportspeople who cheat. My guess is that if you ask most Australians they'll tell you they don't like politicians who blatantly mislead them, either.

John Capel, Black Rock, Vic

Brownlow medalist Jason Akermanis appears to have been spot-on with his assessment of drugs in sport, particularly the AFL.

Stephen Jones, Dawesville, WA

Australian footballers must feel like clay pigeons in a shooting gallery.

H. Casson, Foster, Vic

I see Julia Gillard has urged NRL clubs to come clean over doping allegations - just like she came clean with her own party over the election date?

Roseanne Schneider, Yeronga, Qld

Brendan O'Neill makes good sense ("Gay marriage a feelgood fight for issues-lite elite", 11/2). Society does well to safeguard marriage between male and female as best for the next generation, and should not weaken the institution in the name of alleged inequity. Since same-sex relationships can never be equivalent to marriage, it would be unjust to treat these different things as though equal.

Labor claims superannuation as one of its signature products. But to continually undermine confidence in the product is signature Labor behaviour. Furthermore, tinkering with superannuation is similar to the Gillard goverment's handling of the mining tax. The risk to investment is a signature Labor outcome.

Mandy Macmillan, South Mission Beach, Qld

Bill Leak has Wayne Swan as the answer to a cryptic crossword clue (Cartoon, 11/2). Perhaps the clue was "Saw any new MP would do".

Ted Kitto, Toowoomba, Qld

Was Bill Leak's clue for 9 across "Shrinking aquatic avian pursues crockery at foot of rainbow"?

Dudley Horscroft, Banora Point, NSW

Bill Leak is too soft on Wayne Swan. Depicting him being able to solve a clue in a cryptic crossword is a bit of a stretch when past performance would suggest he doesn't have one.

Peter Maddern, Wembley, WA

The response to the horse-meat scandal in Britain seems a bit overdone. I've never heard anyone say, "I'm so hungry I could eat a cow".

Pete Robinson, Corlette, NSW

Given the amount of money taxpayers have contributed to Australia's inefficient car industry over the past 50 years, surely everyone is entitled to a free 2013 VF Commodore.
