The PGA Tour of Australasia has arrived in Toowoomba for the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship to be played at City Golf Club from 14 – 17 February.

As well as bringing some of Australia’s top golfers to the region the aim of the tournament is to leave a lasting legacy of golf amongst the community.

“The Tour loves visiting Toowoomba and we are proud to be able to bring championship golf to regional areas of Australia,” said Simon Butterly, General Manager Tournaments Division.

“It is the aim of our State Based Championships to expose as many people to golf as possible and provide them with a unique experience that continues to ignite their passion for our great sport.”

Sports fans will witness Australian PGA Champion Daniel Popovic, Japan Tour winner Brad Kennedy and two-time Australian Masters Champion Bradley Hughes teeing it up this week but will also have the opportunity to be involved in the tournament themselves.

Today some of the Tour’s rising stars including Queensland’s Rika Batibasaga and former winners like Paul Donahoo will play alongside junior golfing talent in a nine hole pro-am.

Heading out amongst the scenic beauty of Toowoomba will be OneAsia winners Nick Cullen and Matthew Griffin as well as three-time PGA Tour of Australasia champion Paul Sheehan. Demonstrating that golf can be played away from the course, the three champions will be competing in the Riverwalk Shootout where their target will be floating in a pond.

A highlight of the week for many of the Professionals during past Queensland PGA Championships has been visits to the Toowoomba Base Hospital’s children’s ward. Giving up their time to provide some entertainment to kids who are unable to make it to the course has been very satisfying for those involved.

Other community engagement initiatives throughout the week will include; a fashion parade, corporate pro-am, coaching clinics, autograph signing sessions, school visits and a sportsman’s lunch.

The Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship gets underway on Thursday 14th February at City Golf Club with the champion to be crowned on Sunday 17th February.

The winner of the championship will walk away with the lion’s share of the AU$115,000 prizepurse as well as Official World Golf Ranking points.
