This year marks the thirty-eighth anniversary of the Australian honors system and today will see the announcement of national Bravery Awards. These awards recognize the heroic actions of people who have placed their safety and the lives of others before their own. On the afternoon of January ten, Twenty-eleven, then Station Officer Peter McCarron responded to a situation where two women were trapped on a vehicle in fast flowing floodwater in the middle of Toowoomba Central Business district. When he arrived, one woman was on top of a submerged vehicle and another was in the water, holding onto a rope that had been thrown to her. Then another vehicle floated downstream and collided with the women's car. Acting Inspector Peter McCarron immediately went into the water and pulled himself along the rope.
