Four companies building liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants in Gladstone have funded a rescue helicopter for the city.

The companies already finance helicopters in Toowoomba and Roma, and they have pledged $30 million for a service for gas workers on Curtis Island.

Steve Nelson from Careflight says it will also be available for general emergency services across the region.

"We certainly do work in with the rescue service to supplement their service to the community, however, we do stress the fact that Careflight offering is principally funded and measured to support Curtis Island LNG developments," he said.
