The Queensland Nurses Union (QNU) is seeking an urgent meeting with the management of one of Brisbane's largest hospitals after two men tried to abduct a nurse overnight.

Police are looking for the two men after they tried to drag a 36-year-old woman into a car after she left her own vehicle about 9:00pm (AEST) to start work at the Princess Alexandra Hospital at Buranda on the city's southside.

One man held a sharp implement to her side and threatened her, telling her to get into a car parked nearby where another man was waiting.

Detective Inspector Geoff Acreman says the nurse got away when the attack was disturbed by a passing motorist.

Police say the woman was not hurt apart from a scratch where the sharp object was pushed against her.

Detective Inspector Acreman says the car was traced to Toowoomba and the owner has identified two men who borrowed his car.

"We have located that car up in Toowoomba and that car will be undergoing some forensic examinations," he said.

"We have received some information that may assist us in our investigations and we hope to have those persons in custody very soon."

QNU secretary Beth Mohle says it is every shift worker's worst nightmare.

"It is always difficult given that nurses - 24-hour, seven-days-a-week shift workers - there's going to be that risk there," she said.
