Late mistakes cost Raiders after mounting a comeback - Toowoomba Chronicle

TOOWOOMBA Raiders came back from a big half-time deficit but it proved futile as late mistakes allowed Holland Park to post a 6-2 Brisbane Men's Capital League Two win at home on Saturday.

Holland Park established a 3-0 lead in the first half before Raiders fought back to narrow the gap to 3-2 thanks to goals from Phil Gamatia and Will Kiers.

Another goal could have enabled Raiders to salvage a point, but some late mistakes at the back gifted Holland Park some insurance goals.

The hosts capitalised on Raiders errors to score three second half goals in what was a high-scoring match.

Raiders coach Mick Willmot was happy with the effort from his players, especially after trailing 3-0 when they could have dropped their heads.

"We were down 3-0 in the first half and the boys fought back to 3-2. Then a few mistakes cost us goals and that was the end of that," he said.

The result sees Raiders drop from ninth to 10th on the ladder after three games.

Raiders have won one of those three matches and Willmot said he was confident his team could improve on that record in the coming weeks, starting with a home game against win-less Oxley United this Saturday.

"I just said to the boys, 'keep your head up because you don't win anything at the start of the season'," he said.
