MAKING it to 100 years of age is no easy feat, just ask Toowoomba woman Jessie Williams.

Mrs Williams, who grew up in the Garden City, will celebrate her 100th birthday on Sunday.

She was in born on July 14, 1913 in Toowoomba where she was raised by her aunties.

Mrs Williams attended Toowoomba East State School, loved to play hockey and was a founding member of the Ladies Red Lion Club.

After school, she worked in the Kodak Photo Shop until a conflict of interest arose as her brother was a photographer for another outlet.

So instead, she took a job in a shoe store.

Mrs Williams married Eddie Williams when she was 21 and the couple had four children - one daughter and three sons.

She spent her time as a housewife and loved working in her garden and making sweets and cakes. She also had a passion for knitting and crocheting.

After a slight ailment at age 96, Mrs Williams went into a nursing home. She now lives at Bupa Toowoomba near the top of the Toowoomba Range.

Her son Graham Williams said she still received birthday and other cards from friends.

He said she was unfortunately confined to her bed, but was still in good spirits.
