This year's FKG Tour of Toowoomba sets off from the Town Hall in Ruthven St. Bev Lacey
THE 2014 FKG Tour of Toowoomba has pipped some iconic Queensland events to claim a major gong at this year's Regional Achievement and Community Awards presentation.
The event was named The Buzz Print Events and Tourism award winner at a gala Caloundra Convention Centre function last Saturday night.
The four-day Tour of Toowoomba took the title ahead of fellow finalists - the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival and Warwick's Jumpers and Jazz in July Festival.
The award recognises the ability of events to generate incomes and other positive inputs into regional communities.
The Tour of Toowoomba has grown to four days and five stages of racing across Darling Downs roads.
Event director John Osborne said he was humbled to receive the award on behalf of the tour's large band of fellow volunteers.
"I believe the significant growth of the tour across five regions enabled us to fit the award criteria very well," Osborne said.
"We always stuck to an original concept based on old tour conditions.
"But of course without the foresight of Gary Gardiner to back this event from day one it would never have been possible."
Next year's Tour of Toowoomba will run from May 21-24.
