DREAMERS, thinkers and innovators are joining forces to do battle in a global competition for entrepreneurs.

Startup Toowoomba is a new business run by and for entrepreneurs and is hosting its inaugural Startup weekend today and tomorrow at theGRID.

Local participants in the world's largest Startup competition have 54 hours to come up with and launch a Startup venture.

The fast-paced think tank is designed for rapid idea generation, Silicon Valley style.

Startup Toowoomba co-founder David Masefield said the opportunities for budding entrepreneurs were unparalleled.

"In just one weekend people can pitch ideas, form teams, build and launch their very own business or venture," Mr Masefield said.

"The sky's the limit really."

Mr Masefield's business partner Leanne Griffin said Toowoomba was experiencing unprecedented growth at a time when exciting things were happening globally.

"People are looking for more opportunity, more inspiration and more flexibility in their lives," Ms Griffin said.

"Startup weekend offers a chance for all of this, no matter who you are.

"Dreamer, designer or businessman you can get creative, have fun and make a difference to the Toowoomba landscape.''

Winners from Toowoomba's weekend could go on to compete within their region and then the world.

Ms Griffin said she and Mr Masefield founded Startup Toowoomba to bring together entrepreneurs in the region and provide a space for them to develop ideas.

"The old days of doing business, having a five-year plan and time to develop the product are gone. Now any person with a good idea and a few hundred dollars can go global. Just look at Mark Zuckerberg."

Her advice for budding entrepreneurs was to get out and discuss the idea with like-minded people.

"You don't need to have all the answers right now, but whatever you do get out of the building and get engaged."

The group holds regular informal meetings open to members of the public and is working on developing a collaborative space in Toowoomba.
