DESPITE the height difference, Centenary Heights year eight student Felix Best looked right at home between two politicians.

He proudly escorted Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek and Member for Toowoomba South John McVeigh to his school's new year seven building for its official opening.

Mr Langbroek said the $5.45 million, two-storey building would help support the year seven students who would begin their high school journey in 2015.

"Queensland secondary schools are finalising their preparations to welcome a double intake of students in years seven and eight next year," Mr Langbroek said.

"With the official opening of this project, Centenary Heights is one step closer to ensuring its incoming students will have the sort of facilities that will best support their education experience."

Principal Maryanne Walsh said it was a privilege to have the minister visit the school and meet some of the students.

She said the school was ready for next year's transition, one of the biggest changes to take place in Queensland's education system in 50 years.

"Our new building has been specifically designed to create an inspiring and engaging learning environment for our young adolescent students," she said.

Member for Toowoomba South John McVeigh said the school expected to welcome 220 year seven students and a further 175 year eight students through the gates on the first day of school in 2015.

After his appointment at the high school, the education minister visited TAFE Queensland South West remedial massage and massage therapy students to learn more about a new e-learning platform that aims to increase skills in diabetes management.
