The garden city may get another significant green space if the mayor is granted his wish of a 'garden spine' running through the old railway yards close to the centre of the city.
The State Government has declared the area a 'priority development' which, according to the Toowoomba mayor, means a "great opportunity".
"We're looking at having a water feature and park areas and areas for people to walk and ride," councillor Paul Antonio said.
The mayor says the Roma Street Parklands and Southbank developments in Brisbane are his inspiration.
"But it would be difficult to produce a beach," he said.
The heritage-listed Toowoomba Foundry is also located in the area.
"We know there are some developers looking at that building," the mayor said.
"I think it might reverse from being a commercial area to an urban village.
"It would mean people could live close to the CBD and walk to work and have facilities of a beautiful creek with water features.
"I think it will become a very attractive area."
Former railway yards and sheds have been 'gifted' from the State Government. the mayor says these areas could be rebuilt into something 'valuable' for the broader community.
